Syringomyelia is a condition whereby fluid filled cavities develop within the spinal cord. Ir is also known as "neck scratcher's disease" because affected dogs will often scratch in the air near their neck. It can occur with varying levels of severity, and in the very worst cases can cause extreme agony and the sufferer has to be put down.
Nicki Hughes has put together a small information leaflet and has collected a number of informal "case studies"; she has been kind enough to allow this information to be reproduced here.
If you have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who has been diagnosed with syringomyelia and would like to provide similar information regarding your dog, Nicki ( and the other owners) may be contacted via the Yahoo Group ArnoldChiarl Dogs to discuss this.
